How did boycotting affect the British in India during the decolonization?

Personally, I think that the boycotting of British goods in India, led by Gandhi-ji's long walk to the sea to scoop up handfuls of salt, that was taxed by the British, and his refusal to wear Western clothing, wearing instead, hand-woven cotton white (not dyed)--also made by the British and sold in India, and in spite of repeated imprisonments, he refused to bow to their rules and ruling power. I think that as the world received word of his trek to the sea came out, world disapproval and pro-independence movement grew against the British! I think Gandhi's devotion to freedom broke the Imperial back of the British Imperialism.
